Low Energy

This icon identifies wood flooring products whose contents are sourced and processed locally within the listed mileage. Local sourcing and manufacturing reduces the amount of energy used in shipping raw materials. Energy used in shipping and manufacturing a given product are sometimes referred to as “embodied energy,” so a product whose contents are shipped shorter distances has lower embodied-energy than products whose contents are shipped long distances.

To qualify the product will have been manufactured under 500 miles from its final use with the mileage listed.   In the future, WFRG will take into account differences between road mileage and water mileage as water transport is very efficient compared to trucking.
